La Fuente provides outpatient treatment specifically designed to heal, strengthen & advance the lives of LGBTQ people. The La Fuente outpatient therapy program is conveniently located in the heart of Hollywood and offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient programming (IOP) in addition to other outpatient therapy modalities. This level of care is for clients at a stage in their recovery process where they can benefit from the flexibility and autonomy that comes with outpatient treatment as well as the unique programming offered.
It is here where La Fuente’s clients have the opportunity to integrate, or reintegrate as is often the case, occupational, academic, and social activities, and responsibilities back into their lives, enriching and enhancing the recovery process.
Our outpatient programming is designed to accommodate work and family life. Every client is given an individualized treatment plan, which offers group and family therapy. Individual sessions are also available. Clients benefit from the structure and support of addiction treatment as they continue to grow personally and professionally.
How Is Outpatient Therapy Different From Inpatient Therapy?
After a client completes a medically supervised detox, they most often enter a residential treatment program. As the name suggests, residential treatment is inpatient treatment–the client lives on-site in the residential center for the duration of the treatment program and has 24/7 support and care. Residential programs are highly structured and can vary in length of stay based on the severity of the addiction.
However, once a residential treatment program is completed, many clients transition to outpatient therapy because they no longer require around-the-clock treatment. The coping skills and strategies gained through detox and residential treatment allow them to begin reintegrating with the community and living on their own. While it is possible for a client to enter this level of care directly without completing detox or a residential program, it is more commonly a transitional step taken on the road to recovery.
A large part of our mission in working with our clients at this level of care is to engage and create change at the community level and instill a sense of rich connection derived from this type of work into everyday life. Developing a sense of meaningful connection within and outside the treatment community is powerful and integral in the recovery process as we work to improve the communities where we live and work.
Often clients become change agents both for the communities they return to and the new life they create here at La Fuente. In fact, community plays such a prominent role in La Fuente’s treatment programs that treatment center locations have been thoughtfully chosen and purposefully integrated into the La Fuente experience. This can take the form of local service work, philanthropic work, and civic service. We have a deep dedication to the community here at La Fuente, and it shows.
What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
A partial hospitalization program best serves those clients who still need a lot of structure and support throughout the day. It offers more autonomy and flexibility than residential treatment since the client lives outside the treatment center but offers a full schedule of supportive therapy and treatment throughout the day.
A PHP is usually up to six hours a day of rigorous, scheduled therapeutic activities. These could be individual or group therapy sessions, clinically-based treatment such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or dialectical behavior therapy, or other forms of supportive therapy that the client requires to overcome their addiction and move towards sobriety.
What Is Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP)?
As the name suggests, intensive outpatient programming is a form of outpatient therapy. It is the required level of care for clients that need a bit of support and structure to avoid the possibility of relapse and continue with their active and engaged lives of sobriety. An IOP is not as rigorous as a PHP as it provides approximately three hours a day of intense therapeutic activities.
Again, the activities will be tailored to the individual client’s needs but could include anything from group therapy to relaxation yoga and relapse prevention therapy.
